Whether in your own motorhome, a mobile home or rather staying overnight in an Indian tipi - at KNAUS Campingpark am Hennesee every guest will find his or her favourite place to sleep and a variety of leisure activities. Together with her team, the camp manager has paid special attention to the needs of the numerous hikers and was the first campsite in the Sauerland to be awarded the title of "Quality Host Wanderbares Deutschland" by the German Hiking Association.
Sabine Volkmann, the responsible camp manager, manages the campsite directly on the lake Hennesee together with her family. In order to receive the coveted quality seal of the German Hiking Association, the specified criteria regarding equipment, service and catering must first be met, as Julia Rohe, Hiking Theme Manager at Sauerland Tourism, knows: "If a facility wants to be awarded the title of quality host in the field of hiking, it must be proven that it has specially tailored offers such as hiking maps, shoe cleaning supplies, packed lunches or up-to-date weather information for its guests. If a host fulfills the strict requirements of the hiking association, it is awarded the title of particularly hiking-friendly accommodation after a thorough examination by trained local tourism experts.
"We are very pleased about the award as a quality host", Mrs. Volkmann says enthusiastically. "Since we always welcome many guests to our camping park who would like to explore the region on foot, we started early to develop our own hiking offers and to adapt ourselves completely to the needs of the hikers. In addition to elaborate programmes such as a complete hiking week for groups and a full moon hike with a moonlight picnic, the hikers can expect numerous other amenities such as a "hiking pharmacy" with blister plasters for heavily used feet or a dirt trap for dirty trekking shoes. The hikers are not only personally on the camping park received by the camp-manager, but if desired also taken on led routes approximately around the dam: "Who comes to us, can rely on the fact that he can enjoy a varied active vacation in a marvelous landscape" , emphasises Volkmann, who helps her guests gladly with tips and fitting route suggestions further. "With the award by the German Hiking Association, we have now also received the official confirmation that our efforts have paid off and that hikers can feel completely at home with us". Also for spontaneous visitors, who look for a soft bed in the evening after a long march, there is always a free bed - for instance in the rustic tipi-tent or in the comfortable mobile home.
The certificate "Qualitätsgastgeber Wanderbares Deutschland" is now valid for three years and clearly demonstrates the high quality level of the camping park, which also bears the Bett+Bike award. "We hope that many more hosts will follow this good example," says Rohe. In addition to an almost "unforeseeable" signposted network of paths and hiking starting points with large information boards, it is especially the certified quality hosts in the region who guarantee holidaymakers a carefree hiking experience.
