Camping Lacus is situated in the middle of the picturesque village of L'Escala on the Costa Brava - Spain's "Wild Coast". Our mobile homes are located in a natural forest under shady trees and close to the camp's own fishing lake. Bathing is not possible there but the floods of the Mediterranean Sea are waiting only 100m further on the well-known fine sandy beach of Riells.
This is where water sports enthusiasts get their money's worth, as there are many canoe and kayak rentals, surfing, sailing schools, and even an exchange base in the immediate vicinity. There you can take various courses or take guided dives in the neighbouring Banyuls-Cerbère marine reserve. The area is a real insider tip for divers!
You can also indulge in culinary delights in the numerous tapas bars and restaurants of L'Escala, which are within walking distance. The harbour is a pulsating place to live, especially in summer. Here you will find various cafés, bars and music clubs where night becomes day. -
During a holiday in L'Escala, you should not miss the famous ruins of Empúries. They attract thousands of visitors every year and are a real highlight not only for those interested in archaeology. From here, thousands of years ago, Greeks and Romans opened up the Spanish peninsula and left behind impressive mosaics and sculptures.
You can reach the excavations and the associated museum easily by foot from L'Escala via the 2 km long "Passeig d'Empúries". This well-developed path was built for the torch relay of the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona and leads guests along the picturesque "Wild Coast". It connects the historic centre of L'Escala with Sant Martí d'Empúries.
Do you fancy a day trip? Then we consider visiting the provincial capital Girona, only 40 km away. The medieval town with its winding streets and picturesque squares has also served as a backdrop for numerous film and television productions. Let yourself drift through the historic old town and marvel at impressive buildings from different centuries, such as the Arabic Baths, the Basilka San Feliu or the Jewish quarter.
An excursion to the open-air museum "La terra agombolada" is ideal for children. Farmers, artisans and artists work there as they did centuries ago and bring visitors closer to their work. At the end of the tour, you can inspect and taste the manufactured products.
